Original Item: Only One Available. This is a rather grim reminder on the cost of war. Whether it was an allied soldier or a friendly soldier, a death is a death and their families felt that loss. This box is similar in nature to the boxes that were sent home to the United States after a service member fell in combat. They would normally consist of all personal items that the soldier had either on him or back in the “rear” where a footlocker would have been present. While the Japanese didn’t have the same capabilities as the allied soldiers due to being isolated on one of the various islands, they often only had a few items with them.

The grouping consists of the following notable items:
- Order of the Rising Sun 8th Class With Box: The order of the rising sun was established in 1875 by the then Emperor Meiji. There were 8 classes, with 1st class being the most prestigious. Women only started receiving this award in 2003. Prior to this they were awarded the Order of the Precious Crown. Along with the 7th class, the 8th class of the order was abolished in 2003. The order is awarded for distinguished achievements in international relations, promotion of Japanese culture, developments of social occupational welfare or preservation of the environment.

- The 1937-45 China Incident War Medal With Case: The China Incident Medal was established by Imperial Edit No. 496 on July 27, 1939 and awarded for service in China at any time from the 12th through the 20th years of the Shōwa period (1937–1945).
An amendment was promulgated by Imperial Edict No. 418 in 1944, and the decoration was abolished in 1946 by government ordinance No. 177. Although the Japanese government still uses “China Incident” in formal documents, media in Japan often paraphrase it with other expressions like Japan-China Incident (日華事変, Nikka jihen) or (日支事変, Nisshi jihen). The medal is struck in bronze and has a swivel grip. The obverse shows crossed flags, the imperial mum crest, and a crow. The reverse shows mountains, clouds, and waves, as well as the inscription ‘China Incident.’ The ribbon is 37mm wide, watered, of 3 mm blue (the sea and the Navy), 7.5 mm tan (the soil of China, for the Army), 3.5 mm dark pink (the bloodstained soil of China), and 2 mm bright red (blood and loyalty).
- Imperial Time Expired Soldiers League Basic Member's Badge With Box: Two-piece construction, gilt star mounted to a silver base, obverse featuring the symbol of the organization: the army cap badge star and crossed swords over a fouled anchor, all within a shield, vertical pinback, in great condition. In its original balsa wood box, faint gilt characters on the lid, maker stamped on the bottom.

An Imperial order founded the Imperial Time Expired Soldiers League in 1910, as an organization for improving the military effectiveness of the Japanese nation following the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895 and the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905. The nationwide organization was originally only for soldiers, but in 1914 a naval branch was formed and sailors were admitted for the first time. The Imperial Time Expired Soldiers League was made a sub department under the Army and Navy Ministries.

- Imperial Japanese Army Tropical Uniform Set With Forage Cap: The uniform set is in wonderful condition and does show signs of wear but are presented without any extensive damage. This is a high quality construction, cotton shell and lining with polished buttons. Beneath each armpit are vertical ventilation slashes. The left side of the tunic waist has a button-down strap for adding extra support to the bayonet when being worn.

- 38” x 27” Rayon Silk “Meatball” Flag of Japan: The national flag of Japan is a rectangular white banner bearing a crimson-red circle at its center. This flag is officially called the Nisshōki (日章旗, 'flag of sun'), but is more commonly known in Japan as the Hinomaru (日の丸, 'circle of the sun'). It embodies the country's sobriquet: the Land of the Rising Sun. The flag is in good condition but there are quite a few holes, tearing and stains present as can be seen in the photos.

An incredible grouping that comes more than ready for further research and display.
